MG3 vs MG4: Price

The price of the vehicle is probably the determining factor of whether this model is good for you or not. We all want to have big yachts and mansions, but our budget limits us on how much we can spend.
So, how do these cars perform in this area? Both of these cars are pretty affordable vehicles in their category.
The MG3 is probably one of the cheapest subcompacts in the world. This model starts as low as $8,310 in China, making it one of the most affordable models on the market.
While the MG4 is an EV hatchback that is larger than the MG3. This model is wider and longer, it has a much longer wheelbase overall. That’s why it is more expensive, starting at $18,040. The MG4, although more expensive than the MG3, is still probably one of the most affordable EVs out there.
For a fully loaded MG4, you can expect to spend up to $25,970, while a fully loaded MG3 will cost you up to $13,040 in China. Taking these numbers into consideration, we can say that the MG3 is the more affordable model out of the two.
If you have a tight budget, the MG3 is perfect. But the downside is that this model is not electric, while the MG4 is electric. More about this we will find out later on in the article.
MG3 vs MG4: Design and Interior

The exterior design is the one that attracts at first glance, the design is the thing that makes us purchase a certain product. So, how do these two models perform in this area?
Well, from an exterior standpoint, the MG3 is a really good looking small car. The model follows the core MG design. MG loves to design its internal combustion models around a certain design language. And overall, the model is not bad.
It has a massive front grille with the MG logo, this gives the model a big presence on the road. It has an aggressive front bumper that is also looking really good. Overall, the front end of the MG3 does not disappoint. The rear end has vertical taillights and gives you that hot hatch vibe.
For 2024 there should be a new model of the MG3 released. This new model will implement sleeker lines and a softer more contemporary design approach. From the teasers, we absolutely loved how this model will look!
The MG4 on the other hand is a completely different story. This model is a real pocket rocket. It packs aggressive and sharp lines with a sleek look. The MG4 is designed to be a proper performance EV and does not follow the same trends as other MG models with internal combustion engines.
When it comes to the interior, both models are good for their price point. However, the interior of the MG4 is understandably better since this model is much more expensive. So, with the MG4, you can expect more room in the cabin, softer materials, and overall, a better build quality.
This is why in terms of looks both inside and outside, our vote goes for the MG4!
MG3 vs MG4: Power and Performance

Power and performance mean a lot, especially when it comes to EVs. EVs have to perform in order to be considered as good options. By this, we mean a strong 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time. So, how do these two models perform in this area?
The MG3 is an internal combustion engine model. This means that this model is not an EV but an ICE model. And this model is not a powerhouse by any means. It implements a 1.5L engine that outputs 105 hp. Which is not a lot. The acceleration time of this model is 10.4 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h.
The MG4 on the other hand is a fully electric model. The MG4 performs as such and delivers a good amount of power. Which is about 125 kW or 167 hp. This model is rear wheel drive, compared to the front wheel drive of the MG3.
All these aspects make the MG4 a lot more fun to drive. The MG4 has an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in only 7.9 seconds.
But if you choose the higher end model of the MG4, you will get all-wheel drive and a dual electric motor setup that will give you 422 hp and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.8 seconds. Which makes this model a true pocket rocket.
This is why if you consider buying a performance EV, the MG4 should be one of your top options.
MG3 vs MG4: Battery and Range

Battery and range are two vital aspects when it comes to choosing your future EV. Range anxiety is a real problem nowadays and many of the early adopters are disappointed from their low range EVs.
This is why we recommend that you invest a good time in understanding these aspects before you decide to buy a certain car. But how do these two models do in this category?
Well, the MG3 is an internal combustion model. This means that this model does not have a range. But a fuel consumption every 100 kilometers. The fuel economy in the MG3 is excellent for a car with an internal combustion engine.
This model spends 4,7 liters of gas on the highway and 8,2 liters in the city. With a combined fuel economy of 5,9 liters. This makes the MG3 one of the best deals for those who want to get something really efficient for their money.
On the other hand, the MG4 is an electric car. This means that you only have a battery and electric motor. The base model implements a 51 kWh battery pack that is good enough for 425 km of range. Which is really decent for this size of battery.
There is also a longer range version that is good for 520 km. This version is understandably more expensive because it packs a 61 kWh battery pack.
Overall, the decision between these two models is difficult since they are excellent performers in their categories. But since the MG4 is an EV, our vote goes for this model.
MG3 vs MG4: Autopilot and Other Tech

One of the biggest factors that many people take into consideration when buying an EV is the autopilot and other safety technologies that EVs are associated with.
Everyone wants to have that self-driving car. But are these cars really self-driving? Well, not quite, these two models cannot be described as self-driving.
The MG3 does not have any type of equipment that will allow it autonomous driving. The MG3 has all the essentials though, such as the ABS system, traction control, hill-start assist, airbags, TPMS sensors, rear view camera, and other goodies.

But the MG4 is in a completely different league compared to the MG3. This model packs a powerful ADAS system.
For those who don’t know, this is the Advanced Driving Assistance System. This system packs many sensors, cameras, and radars. Then through powerful algorithms makes instant decisions. Features that this system offers include Level 2 autonomy, which is made possible with the adaptive cruise control system.
In addition to this, there are many other functions, such as blind spot monitoring, front collision warning, automated emergency braking, rear cross traffic brake, traffic sign recognition, lane departure alert, and parking assists.
So, overall, the MG4 is a much better option than the MG3 in terms of technology and safety.
MG3 vs MG4: Size and Body

Vehicle size is important, you need a car that is practical enough in order to meet your needs. Everyone has different needs and this is why you should find a car that will not disappoint you in terms of practicality.
We can tell you immediately that the MG4 is a much larger vehicle. This means that the MG4 packs a lot of space inside of the cabin and in the trunk space.
With this model, you will not struggle for headroom and legroom. Unless you are over 180 cm or 6 feet tall. You also have a very generous trunk space of 363 liters with the MG4, which is enough for most people’s needs.
On the other hand, the MG3 is a much smaller model. This model has limited legroom and headroom and larger people might struggle for room.
Especially in the rear where the space is very limited. The trunk space is also not one of the best with the MG3. With only 207 liters of space, this model is pretty limited.
So, our vote when it comes to practicality goes for the MG4. This model is much more practical and has a decent amount of storage space, as well as space for accommodating people.
MG3 vs MG4: Safety

Vehicle safety is really important these days. So, choosing the right model for you is crucial because a car can literally save your life in some situations. But how do these two models deliver?
What is worth noting is that the MG3 does not include a lot of safety equipment compared to the MG4. With this model you only have standard airbags, ABS, traction control and basically that’s all.
While with the MG4, you have all that plus an ADAS system that has a lot of safety functions. Making this model much safer since the car is constantly aware of its surroundings.
Both of these models were crash tested by the Euro NCAP and the MG3 performed pretty average, scoring 3 of 5 stars overall. While the MG4 scored clean 5 of 5 stars.
This is why we think that the MG4 is a much better car when it comes to safety than the MG3.
MG3 vs MG4: Warranties

Warranty is a really important aspect when buying a car. Having good coverage is a very big deal, especially when it comes to EVs that have very large and expensive batteries.
The MG3 has a good 7 year or 160,000 km warranty. This is a complete vehicle warranty that covers both the body and the powertrain of the vehicle.
While with the MG4, things are slightly different. With this model, you get an 8 year warranty or 160,000 km on the battery and a 7 year or 160,000 km overall vehicle warranty.
Both of these models perform fairly similarly in this category since they are made from the same manufacturer.
MG3 vs MG4: Additional Considerations

There are not a lot of important considerations that you need to take when it comes to buying one of these models. Maybe besides the size of these models. These models are not perfectly comparable.
The MG4 is a much larger model than the MG3. So, it’s normal to outperform this model. Also, the MG3 is an internal combustion model, while the MG4 is purely electric, another big difference between the two.
Final Thoughts
Overall, when making a decision between the MG3 and MG4, you should not think a lot because the MG4 is a better option in almost every aspect.
The MG4 is larger, more powerful, more practical, and has a ton of technology implemented compared to the MG3.
The MG3 is a pretty old-school car with not a lot going on and this model lags behind the MG4 in every aspect. Especially in terms of safety, which is really important.
This is why you should go for the MG4 because this is simply a better vehicle.
