Nowadays, in-car connectivity, which allows you to pair your smartphone to the vehicle’s infotainment system, is a must-have. Now, imagine connecting your whole EV to that same phone and controlling most of its functions over an app. Well, that’s what the MG iSMART is all about.
Besides allowing you to pre-start the air-con or check the battery charge, it can also show you the vehicle’s location or find the nearest charging point. Even more, MG iSMART doubles as a Wi-Fi hotspot and takes care of all over-the-air software updates.
A feature essential for smooth and unobstructed EV mobility – fast charging – is another of MG4’s many strong points. Plug it in one of the more powerful DC fast chargers, and you can get 80 percent of the battery charge in less than 40 minutes. And to be honest, that’s more than enough for most journeys.
Alternatively, you can use a household AC outlet, which will fully charge the battery in approximately 10 hours. Perfect for day-to-day charging while your car sits in the garage or on the driveway.
Safety and protection are crucial features in any car, and the MG4 EV offers this at several levels. First is the handling, which is sharp and stable, thanks to lightweight construction and perfect weight distribution. Furthermore, the car constantly monitors the surrounding traffic and, if needed, takes appropriate action and helps avoid collisions even if you’re not fully alert.
Lastly, should all this fail and there is a crash, the MG4’s robust shell and airbags will do their best to keep you and your passengers uninjured.
The MG4 electric hatch starts from $38,990 before on-road costs for the 51kWh Excite. Key features include a 10.25-inch tablet-style touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, select active safety assistance technologies, and 17-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels.
The process of importing an electric car from China can be broken down into eight stages.
Like any other electric car, the range of the MG4 EV depends on several conditions. First, the battery itself and its capacity, which ranges from 51 kW to 77 kW, depending on the model. Then, there are driving conditions, like traffic, speed, or outside temperature, to consider, as this affects the overall range. But in general, you can get 300 kilometers from a single charge from a Standard battery or a bit over 400 kilometers for Extended Range ones.
MG4 EV comes with one of three optional batteries, each having a different capacity and structure. The standard battery pack is rated at 51 kWh and uses Lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) technology. A step is the Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) battery that can hold 64 kWh of charge, found in “Long Range” models. Similar is the 77 kWh Extended range battery used in top-tier models.
One thing many drivers are concerned about is whether the relatively new brands on the market are safe. But you can rest assured knowing the MG4 offers all the latest safety features, including the Electronic Stability Program, various driver aids, and airbags from all angles.
Import duties vary greatly depending on the country you live in and its taxes. However, many countries encourage drivers to buy electric cars by offering low tax rates or eliminating them whatsoever. Even more, you may get a generous subsidy from the government for such vehicles, which makes them even cheaper.
